San Antonio Bird-Building Collision Project

It has been estimated that between 365 and 988 million birds are killed as a result of bird-building collisions annually in the US. The aim of this project is (1) to assess the extent of bird building collisions across urban gradients in San Antonio, and (2) to better understand local and landscape predictors of bird-building collisions. As part of this project we are excited to engage community members in San Antonio to address these aims through data collection.

If you see a dead bird resulting from a bird-building collision (e.g., window strike) anywhere in San Antonio (e.g., UTSA campus, downtown, in your neighborhood) log your observation on iNaturalist, a mobile app created to map and share observations of nature. Data collected during this research will be used to address the aims of this project and, ultimately to inform guidelines aimed at creating bird-friendly buildings and cityscapes.
